Stories of home, family and the road For
seven years Canadian singer/songwriter Steve Benoit has crisscrossed
the continent. America and Canada that
is. Whether it is opening for acts like Todd Snyder,
WHISKEYTOWN, THE GOURDS or just playing at the local watering hole
you can find Steve spreading his stories of home, family and the road. On his debut release Where
I Belong Steve’s Canadian influence shows through in songs like
“Blue Highways” and “Great Fire of 1922”. Having grown up in a very
small town in Northern Ontario, Canada, he began dreaming at a young age of
breaking free of the simple life for something a little bigger. “My
earliest memories are singing along to Elvis records when I was about two or
three, and just knowing that was what I wanted to do.” Though he never
actually started playing in his first band until he was 17, once he got on
stage for the first time, he’s never looked back. After playing in a
number of bands through college, Steve then made the big move to Northern
California, which is where he continued his journey as a singer/songwriter. “It was really an up and down time in my life, but I used my
experience to try and better myself musically and spiritually, then decided
it was time to move on”. Now residing in Nashville, Steve has continued this
journey. On Where I Belong you cannot only see where he’s
been through songs like “Road to my Horizon” or the title track “Where
I belong” but where Steve is going. The
song “More than just a Friend” points to this
past year, in which he has married and been given his first child.
