After a moving to Nashville in 1994 and having a hit single with " Hallelujah World" Dutch was introduced to fellow Alt. Country writer Jon Folk. Shortly afterward in 1995 they formed Crowd of One. Built around the two lead vocals and short, jangly pop songs, Crowd of One became an instant hit. They played ten to fifteen shows a month for the next year and a half building up a loyal following around the region. Enter Michael Webb, fledgling producer. Although being courted by the major country labels they decided to go the independent route because of the creative control and lack of the major label stability in Nashville at the time. Michael and the band would take three months during the summer of 1997 to record 'Rubbertramp'. Recorded at the Tracking Station in Nashville during their hectic live schedule, the album shines with the energy Crowd of One had become known for. Released in January of 1998 it immediately received smashing reviews, radio airplay and sales worldwide. Shortly there after Fred Ecenrode left the band (personal reasons) and was eventually replaced by Adam Farley. A year of hard touring ensued that left the band exhausted. A short hiatus was decided upon. Although 1999 found 'Rubbertramp' still selling well and plans being made for a sophomore album the band still could not find itself ready to continue. "Life had gotten between us" according to Tod.

The band permanently went on hiatus in May of 1999. This  hasn't seen the end of the working collaborations though. Jon appeared on Dutch's new album 'Misery Junkie'. Dutch and Tod have been seen playing together around Nashville and rumor has it that Dutch will appear on Jon's upcoming album. None of the members of Crowd of One have discounted a reunion but they all say too much life and not enough time. A second Crowd of One CD?
